GOALKEEPER Simon Royce has admitted he had initial reservations about joining Gillingham at the end of last season, but was glad of the opportunity to get some first team football.

The 35-year-old, who is expected to sign a one-year deal at Priestfield at the end of the month, spent a brief loan spell with the Gills from QPR in May.

Royce said: "I wasn't sure about joining Gillingham because there were only three games left and I thought, is there any point?

"But I realised it might be an avenue for the following season and it proved to be."
