Surrey Lions v Kent Spitfires
LOCAL pride and climbing out of the totesport League’s second division bottom three will be the agenda for both sides on Monday night when Kent travel to The Oval to take on Surrey Lions.
The two struggling one-day sides met earlier this month when the Lions dampened Canterbury Festival Weeks spirits by clinching a comfortable win with three overs to spare after a league best 82 from skipper Jonathan Batty.
Just two points and one win separate ninth placed Kent from Surrey in eighth but, with their superior run-rate, Spitfires could well move up to seventh should they clinch a fifth win from what has been a dreadfully disappointing limited overs’ campaign.
Yet Kent will extend their lead in the championship should they succeed in their next four-day Frizzell Championship match starting at St Lawrence on Wednesday.
The match will also mark the return to Canterbury of former Kent players Ed Smith and Peter Trego, who both hit form in their side’s last game against Nottinghamshire when Smith scored 128 and Trego bagged six for 59.
