Kent appoint former South Africa coach

KENT have named Graham Ford as their new Director of Cricket.

Ford coached the South African national team from 1999 to 2002, winning nine out of his 11 series in charge.

The 44-year-old played first class cricket and coached in South Africa for Natal before his his elevation to international level.

Kent chairman Graham Johnson said: "We have interviewed some outstanding candidates and in deciding on Graham we believe we have the right man for the job.

"He has extensive experience at both first class and international level and we are sure our existing coaching team and players will benefit from his vast experience.

"The infrastructure to get the best from the playing staff and the cricket management is now in place. We are excited about the process of taking potential into consistent performance on the field."

Ford has agreed to a two-year development programme with the club, which will cover first class performance as well as the development of Kent's young talent.

He said: "There is a great deal of coaching and playing talent within the club and I look forward to providing a culture and environment in which all those involved can make the most of that undoubted ability."
