Kent boys on right track at inter-counties match

Kent Schools took on Surrey, Sussex, Buckinghamshire and Hampshire in the annual Schools inter-county match at Kingsmeadow Stadium, Kingston on Saturday.

They returned as winners of the junior boys category and runners-up in the intermediate boys group.

The junior boys match featured 11 individual event wins for Kent athletes.

Among the successes were double victories achieved in the 400m for Wayne Grist (51.94) and F Morgan (53.33), in the shot by Nick Debrett (13.49) and Will Grist (13.01) and in the pole vault by Jesper Hauberg (3.20) and Tadgh Healy (2.70).

The intermediate boys racked up nine wins and a narrow victory in the 4x100m relay (44.48) after Jack Miller (11.33) and James Alcock (11.50) had dominated the individual 100m races.

The girls were less successful with third place in the junior section and fourth in the intermediate age group but there were still seven individual victories to celebrate, including a double in the junior girls 200m for Natalie Hickmott (26.1) and A Jacobs (26.94).
