KENT chairman Carl Openshaw has launched an appeal to win back the five compensation points initially awarded to the county following the New Road flood fiasco in July.

Abandoned after three days without a ball being bowled, the circumstances behind the LV Championship clash still anger Kent's players and coaching staff, and now their club chairman has decided to promote their cause by writing to the four Division 1 counties who vetoed the England and Wales Cricket Board's compromise deal of awarding Kent five compensation points.

Mr Openshaw has written a three-page letter to the full committees of Lancashire, Yorkshire, Durham and Warwickshire asking them to reconsider.

Mr Openshaw said: "It seems something of a long shot, but any way of resolving issues such as this appear that way at first.

"My hope is to get at least one county to change their mind, create a rift and then press on with that.

"I want the Kent members and our players to know that we are still pursuing this."
