KENT completed their third Frizzell Championship win of the summer and their second on the trot after disposing of Division 1 basement side Glamorgan by 10 wickets inside three days at Sophia Gardens.

David Fulton’s side claimed 17 Welsh wickets in the day and bowled the host’s out for a second time inside 46 overs having enforced the follow-on with a lead of 210.

Having rolled out Robert Croft’s injury hit and beleaguered side for 358 – 61 short of making Kent bat again – Kent went on to dismiss them for a second time for 260 shortly before 7pm.

The defeat would have been much heavier and swifter but for a sublime innings of 142 from 124 balls from Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly who, with wickets tumbling all around, batted effortlessly to pick off five sixes and 15 fours.

He featured in a century stand for the seventh wicket with Darren Thomas who contributed just 17 and went to his own century at a run-a-ball despite continued carnage at the other end.

Glamorgan were five for three within four overs at the start of their second innings after a hostile new ball stint from Amjad Khan of three for four in eight balls.

Martin Saggers accounted for the classy Matt Elliott then Andrew Hall proved too sharp for the home middle order in bagging four for 38, yet no one troubled Ganguly.

He took 26 from two overs of James Tredwell’s off-spin, then tucked into the seamers of Darren Stevens who disappeared for three sixes before having the little maestro caught at long off by Fulton.

Andrew Davies contributed an unbeaten 35 to a 10th wicket stand of 80, but only two other home batters made double-figure contributions, while

Ganguly accounted for more than half the score as Glamorgan slid to their sixth defeat in seven starts.

Facing a target of 51 for victory and with only three overs of the day remaining, Kent needed to claim the extra half-hour in order to polish the job off.

But Fulton (25 not out) and Rob Key (24 not out) completed the task in only 47 balls and by 7.20pm to give their side a deserved day off.

The sole thing that went against Kent was that their slow over-rate cost them half a point come the reckoning at close of play.

Even so, the victory takes unbeaten Kent into the first division’s top three and sends them to Birmingham in good spirits for next Wednesday’s championship match against Warwickshire.
