KENT'S Twenty20 Cup bubble burst somewhat on the opening morning of their LV Championship clash with fellow Division 1 strugglers Surrey.

Having won the toss and elected to bat on a sunny morning, Kent lost their first four batsmen in the opening session to go into lunch on a disappointing 70 for four.

Joe Denly was first to go after eight overs when he played inside a Jimmy Ormond off cutter that went on the graze off stump and make it 17 for one.

Martin van Jaarsveld (22) and Rob Key then dug in to add 44 in 20 overs until the former edged to wicketkeeper Jonathan Batty off the bowling of 18-year-old seamer Chris Jordan, who claimed his maiden championship scalp.

Kent's demise continued when cup final batting hero Matt Walker (0) chipped a catch to Mark Ramprakash at square leg to give Jordan his second wicket.

Just before the interval Darren Stevens, with his score on two, swept at Harbhajan Singh to go leg before.

Key, having scored 26 in two and a quarter hours, made it through to lunch together with Geraint Jones on three.
