Reigning Twenty20 Cup holders Kent will return to the scene of last season's Edgbaston cup final triumph next month to take on Warwickshire after Friday night's quarter final draw matched Spitfires against the Midlands and West group winners.

Kent booked their place in the last eight with a commanding 50-run win over a miserable Sussex Sharks side to finish third in the South Division with 12 points from their 10 games. Middlesex qualify as group winners, while Essex also secured a home tie in the last eight after finishing second in the south division.

Spitfires will take on the Bears in Birmingham on Wednesday, July 9 from 5.40pm.

After the draw Kent skipper Rob Key said: "I'm just pleased we didn't get another trip up to Durham!

"The good thing is that a lot of teams won't necessarily want to draw us at this stage of the event.

"We wipe the slate clean now and hopefully start playing better. It'd be nice to put our best game out for the quarter final because there's no hiding the fact that we've barely scraped through this group. We should have made it easier on ourselves."

Reflecting on the 50-run win over Sussex that sealed their place in the draw, Key added: "Credit to Robbie Joseph for the way he bowled tonight because I thought he was fantastic.

"He showed great mental toughness to come into a big game like that and bowl so well on his cup debut.

"Yasir was also fantastic, with bat and ball, and those two performances alone were more or less enough to see us though.

"We've had a few his hiccups along the way and they say it's the sign of a good team when they get through when not at their best. I know we can do better and will hope for improvements up in Birmingham."

All four quarter final ties will be played during the first week in July, two on Monday 7, then one on Tuesday 8 followed by the Warwickshire and Kent clash on the Wednesday. All four ties will be televised by Sky Sports.

In the meantime, Kent return to LV Championship action on Sunday, with the scheduled start of their four-day clash with Division 1 basement side Surrey at The Brit Oval.

Kent will be looking to post their second win of the campaign in order to climb out of the relegation zone, while Surrey will be looking for their first success of the summer.

Kent will give fitness tests to Simon Cook (shoulder), Justin Kemp (back) and Amjad Khan (hamstring) ahead of the 11am start.

Kent from: Key, Denly, van Jaarsveld, Kemp, Stevens, Jones, Arafat, McLaren, Tredwell, Joseph, Khan, Cook, Saggers, Walker, Mahmood.

Twenty20 Cup quarter final draw: Warwickshire v Kent (Edgbaston), Essex v Northamptonshire (Chelmsford) , Durham v Yorkshire (Riverside), Middlesex v Lancashire (The Brit Oval).
