Kent suffer second-day wash out at Edgbaston

KENT'S frustrated cricketers remained in their rooms at the nearby Copthorne Hotel in Birmingham for much of the day rather than sit watching the rain fall at Edgbaston.

Not a ball was bowled on the first day of their crucial LV Championship Division 1 and, with heavy showers continuing, the same fate befell the visitors on Wednesday.

Match umpires Allan Jones and Graham Burgess made a cursory inspection at 11.30am before disappearing to their dressing room to play a few hands of cards.

They re-appeared at 3pm to abandon play for the day.
