CHRIS ROGERS, of Staplehurst, hit an unbeaten 116 in Kent’s 11-run victory over Herts in the Home Counties 60+ Championship at Little Berkhampstead.

Put into bat, Kent were 108 for four after 25 overs, 150 for six after 33 but Rogers and Barry Smith (Gore Court) (31) put on 65 for nine and Kent ended up with 246 for seven.

In reply Herts lost an early wicket, were 108 for two after 25 overs and 134 for four after 31.

Their fifth wicket then put on 79 in 11 overs. However, against some more very tight bowling by Micky Back ( 9-1-26-2) they ended at 235 for five. Ralph Allsworth (Gore Court) took three excellent catches.

Peter Robinson of Addington hit 54 in Kent’s defeat by Surrey at Gore Court. Kent reached 157 for seven in their 45 overs.

In reply, Surrey reached their target with 3.4 overs to spare, 161 for seven. Back returned excellent figures of (9-4-8-2).

The 60+ championship was formulated by Barry Smith after the success of the over 50-years-old championship. Kent appeared to be able to muster about 30 known players and, when approached, Sussex, Surrey, Hertfordshire and Essex were all enthusiastic about the idea.

Each of the five counties play each other once and so far four of the 10 games have been played. The top two teams will contest the final at the end of the season.
