Key man Shaw in fitness battle

GILLINGHAM striker Paul Shaw is fighting to be fit for a week that could shape Gillingham's season. Shaw was taken off at half time against Bristol Rovers with a knee injury and manager Andy Hessenthaler will be sweating on his recovery.

The former Arsenal and Millwall man has been a revelation this season and Gills won't want to lose him with big games coming up.

On the club's official website he says: "I just got a whack on the inside of my knee. I carried on and it didn't feel to bad but then I turned and it felt sore again. The manager said it wasn't worth risking it so I had to come off.

"I don't know about Saturday yet. The first 24-48 hours are the most important and then we will know how bad it is. At the moment it doesn't feel too bad. It just feels stiff more than anything."

Despite trying to keep his and his players' minds chiefly on the league game against Wimbledon this weekend, Hessenthaler has spoken about the club's FA Cup tie with Arsenal. He said: "They will have a few suspensions, but whoever they bring in will be class players.

"We are going to go there and enjoy it, because we have nothing to lose. Arsenal will be favourites now and we can enjoy the day. We will have a right go, and won't be there just to turn up. We will be going there thinking we can cause an upset.

"The pressure is on them, and hopefully we will go to Highbury and perform, and make it very hard for them.

"The most important thing now for me is the game against Wimbledon on Saturday. We can talk about Arsenal for a few hours, but then it's down to work for me, and thinking about the weekend."
