AMJAD KKAN bagged his first wicket of the game to bring an end to Surrey's fourth wicket stand worth 231.
The Danish-born paceman removed home skipper Jon Batty in the fourth over of day two as Surrey reached 351 for four.
Batty's 235-minute stay came to an end with his score on 129 when, in trying to work a good length ball to leg, he chipped a catch to Rob Ferley at mid-wicket.
Ali Brown came in to make a sticky start against Martin Saggers, but Mark Ramprakash looked untroubled at the other end as he took his score on to 141 not out.
