Khan wicket blitz sees Kent home

PACE AND ACCURACY: Amjad Khan
PACE AND ACCURACY: Amjad Khan

A STUNNING fast bowling stint of five for 37 from Danish-born Amjad Khan helped ease Kent to a comfortable 92-run win over Northamptonshire in their two-day friendly at Wantage Road.

Set to chase Kent's first day total of 201 for nine declared, Northamptonshire succumbed for just 109 in the space of 37 overs.

The speedster from Copenhagen struggled with no balls throughout the spell - he sent down no less than eight from the Old Football Stand End - but his accuracy and pace could not be faulted.

He trapped Rob White, David Sales and Steffan Jones leg before and knocked over the stumps of Tom Roberts and Toby Bailey in a rapid nine-over burst.

He received admiral support from winter recruit David Stiff who, after a nervous start, re-arranged the stumps of Mark Powell and top scorer Gerard Brophy (25) with searing yorkers to finish with two for 27.

To broaden the smile of skipper David Fulton, left-arm spinner Min Patel also returned to the fold having missed last season with a back injury with an accurate nine-over spell of three for 15.

Martin Saggers was Kent's unluckiest bowler, his six overs cost just 18 runs and brought no reward despite beating the bat on numerous occasions.

Kent travel home to play Surrey in Canterbury on Thursday and complete their warm-up matches with the visit of Hampshire to St Lawrence on Easter Sunday and Monday.
