DEAN LACEY of the host club Cambridge Harriers completed the second leg of a tough double when he won the Kent 10k title at Wilmington on Sunday in 33 minutes 35 seconds.

Lacy, who won in the Kent senior men's cross-country league the previous day, was always in command on his home course and eventually finished with 83 seconds advantage over Mark Clayton of Beckenham Running Club.

The prodigiously talented Amy Smith of Dartford Harriers overcame the disappointment of dropping out of the Kent women’s cross country league less than 24 hours early by setting the UK’s third fastest 10km time by an under 17 athlete to win the Kent senior title at her first attempt.

Smith’s performance of 36.17 placed her just outside the top ten overall in a field of 500 athletes and is only seven seconds behind Blue Haywood’s leading UK time of 36.10 set in March on a far flatter course at Lincoln.

The remaining podium places were claimed by W40 England internationals Clare Elms (Dulwich Runners) who won the Kent 10k gold medal and Tina Oldershaw (Paddock Wood) who won the Kent Grand Prix individual title with this performance.
