CAMBRIDGE Harrier Dean Lacey maintained his perfect record in the Kent senior men’s cross country league with a stunning victory over Medway and Maidstone’s favourite Neil Renault at Capstone Park on Saturday.

Renault used his marathon running strength on the many hills to maintain a slight advantage for almost the entire six mile race and looked to have the victory sown up entering the final mile but Lacy, who had taken a tumble on the second lap, powered past in the final dash for the line to win by three seconds.

Jenni Periera, the 2006 Kent 3000m champion, showed improved form to take the Kent women’s cross country league race at Capstone after the early leader stepped off the course.

Amy Smith (Dartford Harriers) was a sensational winner of the first match at Sparrows Den, West Wickham and the 16 year old set off again in determined fashion, quickly building a lead of 100m over the former England international.

Smith may have been over ambitious on this occasion and when she walked out of contention before halfway Pereira was quick to seize the advantage with a cushion of 37 seconds over team mate Helena Penfold at the finish.
