Welling returned from their Skrill Premier clash at Southport on Saturday with a well-earned point.
The visitors went close to taking the lead when both Ross Lafayette (pictured) and Kurtis Guthrie were denied by Southport keeper Danny Hurst.
However, Jamie Day's side were in front three minutes after the interval. Alex Dyer's free-kick was not dealt with and Lee Clarke bundled the ball in from close-range.
Southport hit back on 51 minutes when Chris Almond headed home a David Fitzpatrick cross.
And the Sandgrounders hit the front 11 minutes later, Lee Butcher parrying Matt Challenor's effort only to see Danny Hattersley score the rebound.
But the Wings were not to be denied and when Yamen Osawe was caught in possession, Dyer picked up the ball and crossed for Lafayette to equalise.
Welling host Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday (7.45pm).
