Langley Park School for Boys regained the Daily Mail Schools Under-15 Vase at Twickenham with an 8-7 victory over Calday Grange Grammar School.

Fly-half Ben Hollister was the hero, kicking a dramatic added-time penalty to win the match for the Beckenham school after the Grange backs were caught offside on their own 22.

“The first time I practised kicking in the three weeks since the semi-final was this morning before the game,” said Hollister, who left the semi-final against Woodlands School with an injury.

“For the penalty I just tried to treat it as any other day, just a normal kick in a normal game.”

After a scoreless first period, Langley Park made the first breakthrough in the second half when Mark Longhurst’s break ended with Dan Hamilton going over for the try.

It appeared the missed conversion would prove costly when Calday Grange battled back to score a converted try to take a 7-5 lead, but Hollister had other ideas.

“It’s been an unbelievable day,” said Langley coach Simon Harriss. “The boys have worked extremely hard.

“People have written us off as a hit-and-miss side, but at the end of a long season we were able to play the type of rugby we wanted.”
