AFTER suffering their first loss against Hastings Priory, Lashings were keen to avoid a second defeat against Harefield.
Gordon Grenidge and Joel Garner came into the side in a bid to strike fear into the hearts of their opponents.
Thoughts Lashings may be suffering a crisis of confidence were quickly dispelled as openers Grant Flower and Sherwin Campbell began to impose themselves on the Harefield attack, clubbing boundaries on several occasions.
When Campbell was removed, Vasbert Drakes continued to accelerate the run-rate. Drakes batted superbly and contributed 82 to Lashings’ huge total of 315 for 7 from 40 overs.
Harefield were never likely to reach their target, especially when faced with an opening bowling partnership of Courtney Walsh and Joel Garner
However, to their credit the batsmen did not give up, their determination typified by Dan Lyall’s battling innings of 85.
Ultimately this was not enough, and Lashings won the match by 80 runs.
