Last gasp Wings claim first home win

Welling United 1 Bath City 0

TONY SINCLAIR'S 89th-minute header handed Welling their first home win of the season against Bath City on Saturday.

Battling Welling looked to be heading for a draw but had the added bonus of all three points when Sinclair ghosted in at the far post to nod home skipper Richard Carpenter's free-kick and claim his first goal of the campaign.

Welling had lived a charmed life in the second half as Bath twice hit the woodwork but the visitors were left to rue their short-comings in front of goal.

After the second half debacle at Thurrock on Monday, Welling handed a debut to on loan Brentford keeper Clark Masters and fielded player-manager Neil Smith and Carpenter together for the first time this season.

The Wings had the better of the first half with Omari Coleman's free-kick deflected wide and Leon Solomon going close with a long-range drive.

Bath striker Darren Edwards hit the post after 62 minutes following a quick counter-attack and the woodwork came to Welling's rescue again 10 minutes later when Edwards fired against the angle of post and bar.

In between, Welling wasted the best chance of the match when Coleman set up Nicky Ward who somehow blazed over from two yards.
