Wigan 2 Gillingham 0

A GOAL in either half gave Wigan the points at the JJB Stadium.

Nathan Ellington with his 14th goal of the season gave Wigan the lead in the 17th minute.

Former Dartford and Gravesend man Jimmy Bullard and Jason Roberts combined down the right and the Wigan did the rest from three.

Tommy Johnson almost saw red after a clash with Ian Breckin inside three minutes and then spurned Gills' best chance when he lashed his shot over from the edge of the area.

Ian McCulloch brought a great save from on-loan keeper Paul Gallacher but two minutes from time he fired home Mike Flynn's cross home to wrap up the points.

Iwan Roberts looping header over the bar was Gills' best moment of the second half.
