Leeds clash provided big pay day

PAUL SCALLY: feels new policy is proving successful

GILLINGHAM’S midweek match against former Premiership side Leeds United at Priestfield set a new gate receipts record.

Chairman Paul Scally estimated that the club had sold more than 11,000 tickets - Priestfield has a 11,413 capacity - with the actual attendance 10,739.

And with the Leeds match being a AAA category match, with the most expensive ticket £30, the club - who haven’t revealed how much they took - had a good day on and off the pitch.

Mr Scally said: “There is always a discrepancy between the number of seats sold and people who actually turn up, usually because season ticket holders, but others too, pre-pay and then can’t make it.

“We had a number of adverse comments about the new policy but feel it has paid off.”
