Defender Leon Legge felt Gillingham would have been awarded a last-gasp penalty had Brentford not just equalised.
There was late drama at Priestfield on Saturday when Farid El Alagui levelled for the visitors in the fifth minute of injury time.
Gills went straight on the attack from the restart and were adamant they should have had a spot-kick when Cody McDonald went down but referee Gavin Ward waved away their appeals.
Legge, who was booked for his protests, felt Ward got it wrong.
He said: “Everyone was frustrated. Cody’s said the goalkeeper thought it was a penalty.
“I think, personally, if it hadn’t come straight after the kick-off then he would have given it. Any other time in the game that’s a penalty. Stonewall penalty.
“There were a lot of decisions given against us. I didn’t think the referee had a good game. On another day maybe he’d have given it.”
