Tamworth v Welling United - match abandoned
WELLING'S FA Trophy campaign descended into farce on Tuesday night as their game at Tamworth was abandoned due to floodlight failure.
The second round tie was halted five minutes before half-time with the score goalless when a power failure that also appeared to cover surroudning houses left The Lamb in darkness.
After a slow start, which saw Welling keeper Paul Hyde make a fine double save, the visitors more than held their own.
Steve Harper and Chris Moore both went close for the Wings before the tie was halted.
After waiting more than an hour to see if light could be restored, the game was eventually abandoned by the referee at 9.40pm.
Welling boss Adrian Pennock included striker Danny Kedwell in his line-up, despite the forward handing in a transfer request earlier in the week. Keeper Jamie Turner (back) could only make the bench while Keith Rowland returned to the squad and was named as a substitute.
The two teams will try again next Tuesday, January 23, with a home tie against Worcester awaiting the victors in the last 16.
