PROLIFIC Margate striker Danny Hockton says playing at a higher level and a new challenge were the reasons why he joined Blue Square South newcomers Bromley.

Hartsdown Park officials confirmed on Monday that the deal had been completed for an undisclosed fee, and wished the player every success in the future and thanked him for his "substantial contribution" at the club.

Former Millwall youngster Hockton joined Margate two seasons ago from Billericay, but was transfer-listed at his own request after the Thanet club missed out on promotion from the Ryman League Premier Division.

Orpington-based Hockton, 28, netted his best ever total of 40 goals last season, and was also named Supporters Player of the Year.

He said: "I enjoyed my time at Margate, but the move to Bromley gives me the chance to prove myself at a higher level.

"I am sad to be leaving, because they have always been very good to me since I moved there."
