Long away day as Gills look to break duck

Swansea City v Gillingham

GILLINGHAM make the long trip to Swansea tonight as they still seek their first away victory of the season.

Manager Ronnie Jepson knows the venture to Wales will be a tricky one and has instructed his players to go there with no fear.

Jepson said: "Swansea are flying and spending penty of money. But when we go there we've got to roll up our sleeves and be men. That's what we've got to be and stand up to the test."

The Gills' original trip to Swansea was called off due to a frozen pitch and the promotion hopefuls have hit a poor patch recently.

On Saturday they suffered a 1-0 home defeat to struggling Bristol City, a match that saw former Gills defender Tom Williams sent off after picking up two bookings during a hot-tempered clash.

Gillingham's injury list is gradually clearing, with Matt Jarvis, currently recuperating after a hernia operation, and Paul Shields (thigh) the only major absentees.

Danny Spiller and Darren Byfield both picked up knocks against Rotherham at the weekend but are expected to be fully fit in time for tonight's clash.
