LORDSWOOD Cricket Club's dreams of lifting the Evening Standard Cup were shattered by Radlett at The Oval.

The Medway side, minus their professional players Amjad Khan and Dave Masters, put up a great effort but were just found wanting in the end.

Radlett, from Hertfordshire, won the toss and batted first and made 230-7 from their 50 overs with the wily Kevin Masters taking 3-43 from his 10 overs for his side. Darren Scott and Steve Silver both chipped in with wickets,

In reply, Lordswood started steadily with 50-1 from 15 overs. Peter Stock then started to batter the Radlett bowling but once he went for 60 and Terry Rollock for six, Lordswood got the shakes.

A disastrous collapse in the middle order sealed their fate as they lost four wickets for 28 runs. They needed a huge nine runs an over and they fell well short of their target as they were knocked over for 180.

A disappointed Kevin Masters said that the prestigious setting could have played a part in his side's performance but he was ultimately proud of the players.

He said: "I feel nerves got the better of a few of the boys who have never played in a place like The Oval before.

"I thought we bowled well because it was a 280-track and they looked like making that at one stage but we managed to haul them back.

"But we didn't do ourselves justice with the bat and never really got close. But saying that, I'm really proud of the team.

"We had a terrible start to the season but we made a fantastic recovery and everyone can feel proud of their achievements. "I hope we can progress and go one better next year."
