LORDSWOOD Cricket Club are preparing to play the biggest game in the club’s history at The Oval this Sunday without their two county players.
The final of the Evening Standard Challenge Trophy clashes with the County Championship game between Leicestershire and Kent - which sees Lordswood team-mates David Masters and Amjad Khan playing against each other.
Although Kent speed ace Khan was the star man in the semi-final against Enfield, the club are confident they can beat Hertfordshire side Radlett without their professional players.
Former Kent player and current Lordswood stalwart Kevin Masters said: “Two of the best sides in this competition over the last few years have been Stanmore and Finchley and we have beaten both on the way to the final this season without any pros in the team. So we are still confident, although Radlett have the stronger squad on paper.
“We still have plenty of experience in the side with the likes of Terry Rollock, who took 4 for 46 for Barbados against England and scored 40-odd with the bat, and Darren Scott, formerly of Kent.
“But for most of the players the chance to play at a Test ground is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I'm hopeful they'll make the most of their chance.”
Amongst the youngsters in the side is 18-year-old bowler Steve Silver, who is in the starting line-up after Khan and David Masters were chosen to play for their county.
Probable line-up: Martin McGrath, Paul Richards, Peter Stock, Terry Rollock, Peter Clinton, Kevin Sandhu, Darren Scott, Nick Cadmore, Tony Odle, Kevin Masters, Steve Silver.
