Loyal kit man Stedman takes a rest

GILLINGHAM kit man Malcolm Stedman will be given the day off on Saturday after falling ill before Tuesday night’s game at Doncaster.

Stedman fainted in the changing rooms at the Keepmoat Stadium as he prepared the players’ kits but he was soon back on his feet and ready for action.

Stimson said: “He felt dizzy and luckily enough one of the players caught him before he went down. He was checked out by the doctors and he got back on the bus but was worried about the kit and how he was going to wash it!

“I had to tell him to leave the kit, get on the bus and relax and take your time.

“If you cut him open he would be blue and white all the way through and he’s a credit to the football club.

“He lives 30 seconds from the ground, he’s in there at 6 o’clock in the morning and leaves at eight at night. He is Gillingham through and through and he’ll be okay.

"We’ll make sure he is at the match just watching and if we get a win it will be great for him as well to see that.”
