FINANCIAL consultant Paul Sleeman will be hoping to add his 150th victory to his account this weekend when he takes part in the Lydden Classic meeting, the highlight of the Kentish circuit's motor racing calendar.
Sleeman won three Formula Ford championships at Lydden in the late 1970s and he went on to win the Lydden Formula Libre championship five times in the 1980s, when he was based at Herne Bay.
He now lives in Brookland, Romney Marsh, and will be racing his Macon MR8 in Saturday's Classic Formula Ford event. "I'm really looking forward to it," he said. "Lydden Circuit is where I've enjoyed most of my success and I just love the place."
The meeting is organised by the British Automobile Racing Club and brings together the various championships contested by the Classic Touring Car Racing Club and the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club.
Saturday's programme also includes events for Classic Formula Ford 2000, BARC Classic Clubmans, Classic Saloons and an Allcomers Challenge event, as well as a host of races for various Jaguars.
Most of the Jaguars, which include early XK 120 sports cars through D-Types and E-Types and Mk2 saloons right up to the more modern XJS models, will also be racing on the Sunday, along with the Post-historic, Pre-1990 and Group 1 Touring cars.
The action starts on Saturday with practice at 9am, followed by the first race at noon. The first race on Sunday is at 12.30pm.
Lydden Circuit is on the A2, eight miles south of Canterbury.
Admission is £8 (£6 for senior citizens). Entry is free for accompanied children under 15, paddock and parking.
