Gillingham target Kevin Maher has ended weeks of speculation by signing a one year deal with Oldham.
The midfielder has spent most of pre-season training with the Gills but turned down an offer from Gillingham in favour of playing League 1 football next season.
The Gills faced competition from Swindon and Oldham for Maher's signature, but the former pulled out of the race to sign him earlier this week.
That left Maher with a straight choice between Gillingham and Oldham, and the Lancashire side have this evening announced that the 31-year-old has chosen to join them.
Maher ended last season on loan at Gillingham from Southend but was unable to help them avoid the drop into League 2.
