HONOURS were shared in Tuesday night's evenly contested game played at Dover's Crabble ground. Margate seem to be settling in to their new surroundings well, starting the game with their usual fast pace.
They nearly got off to a perfect start when Leon Braithwaite latched on to a through ball by new signing Charles McDonald in the first 5 minutes but just failing to get his shot on target.
Braithwaite and McDonald are forming a formidable partnership up front for Margate and continually threatened Barnet's defence.
On 16 minutes a collision between Margate's Iain O' Connell and Barnet's David Hillier saw O'Connell taken away in an ambulance with his leg heavily strapped. He was replaced by Lee Shearer.
Margate kept plugging away at the Barnet's defence and Braithwaite finally put them ahead on 37 minutes when he fired in from eight yards following good work from McDonald on the left hand side.
Barnet's reply was almost instant when from a free kick 25 yards out in a central position Mark Gower levelled for the visitors with a curling free kick that David Beckham would have been proud of.
Just as the half was drawing to a close and well into the four minutes of added time McDonald again showed what pace he has when he skipped past the Barnet's defence and sent a cross in that saw Braithwaite head in at the near post.
Barnet started the second half stronger and had several opportunities to draw level. Margate Manager Chris Kinnear brought on Terry McFlynn, replacing McDonald who seemed to be limping.
On 75 minutes Barnet finally got their deserved equaliser when Neil Midgley met Gower's free kick at the near post and from six yards out saw his header fly in to the top corner.
