MARGATE kept their heads just above the Nationwide Conference drop zone with a vital win at the Hoverspeed Stadium on Sunday.

They took the lead in bizarre fashion after 10 minutes when Halifax centre-half Karl Colley inadvertently drilled the ball into his own net from 35 yards.

Only some smart work in the Margate goal by Phil Smith then denied Halifax an equaliser before Jean-Michel Sigere wrapped up the points when he volleyed home in the 62nd mintue.
