NICKY SOUTHALL: "To come here and score the winner is a strange feeling"

Gillingham 0 Nottingham Forest 1

FORMER Gills player Nicky Southall struck the winner on Saturday but then revealed it was hard to get excited about scoring against his old club.

The Nottingham Forest midfielder, who made 278 appearances for Gillingham in two spells, tapped home the decisive goal in the 57th minute but had mixed emotions.

He said: "I’ve had a lot of good times here and I’ve got a lot of fond memories of the fans and the place. To come here and score the winner is a strange feeling.

"You don’t want to go rubbing people’s noses in it. They’ve paid a lot of money over the years to watch me play and I wanted to show them respect."
