Cody McDonald is hoping to help bring further success to the Gills after completing a move back to Priestfield on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old striker joined Gillingham after agreeing a termination to his contract at Coventry, which still had a year left to run.
That left him free to agree a two-year deal with Gills, who he scored four goals for in seven games last season on a month’s loan from Coventry.
He teams up again with Adebayo Akinfenwa, his strike partner during his first spell at Priestfield in 2010/11, a season where he scored 26 goals.
He said: “I’ve probably played my best football of my career here when I’ve been on loan and every time I’ve been here, I’ve had a great time.
“There were a few options for me but as soon as I knew Gillingham wanted me, then that was my preferred choice.
“Ideally, I would have liked to have finished the season here last year but that wasn’t to be. Thankfully, I am here now to stay.
“I’m now hoping that I can give the fans something back for all the support they have shown me. I’m buzzing and can’t wait to get going.”
