Dover Athletic 2 Charlton Athletic XI 0
CHARLTON have been dealt a pre-season injury blow after midfielder Jason Euell suffered a dislocated shoulder during a friendly at Dover Athletic on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old was hurt when a Dover player fell on him as he was on the ground trying to keep an attacking move going.
He was taken to hospital and the shoulder was reset, but the extent of the tissue damage has yet to be confirmed.
The injury added to a bad night for the Addicks as a team containing the likes of Euell, Shaun Bartlett, Kevin Lisbie and new signing Gonzalo Sorondo, went down to a 2-0 defeat at the Ryman League Division 1 side.
Craig Cloke scored both goals for the home team to secure a victory that will boost the confidence levels at Dover after they suffered relegation from the Ryman Premier League last season.
Euell has been the subject of strong transfer speculation during the summer, and the club turned down a bid from Birmingham City earlier in the week for their record signing.
Manager Alan Curbishley said: "We have received a bid from Birmingham for Jason Euell but their valuation is nowhere near what we think the player is worth."
The former Wimbledon player has been growing frustrated with a lack of first team opportunities at The Valley.
He made just 12 starts for the Addicks last season, although Curbishely has indicated that the player still has a future at the club.
Meanwhile, first choice goalkeeper Dean Kiely will miss the start of the Premiership season after fracturing his finger in training on Monday.
Kiely has been a near ever-present for the Addicks for the last three seasons and the injury is a blow to Curbishley's pre-season preparations.
The club have already reached their limit of domestic loan signings but the Charlton boss may seek special dispensation from the Premier League to bring in another keeper, with young Danish stopper Stephan Andersen the only recognised stand-in.
