DANNY MURPHY ended weeks of speculation over his future by leaving Charlton for London rivals Tottenham in a deal worth up to £2million on Tuesday night.
The deal was done with 30 minutes to spare before the closure of the January transfer window.
The England international midfielder joined Charlton in a £2.5million move from Liverpool in August, 2004. Since then he made 64 appearances and scored 10 goals.
Despite manager Alan Curbishley's insistence that Murphy was "going nowhere", rumours persisted that the 28-year-old had become unsettled and poor performances in defeats at Wigan and Everton fuelled speculation.
His appearance in the 3-1 defeat at Everton on January 2 was to be his last for the club. He was withdrawn after 67 minutes with a pulled hamstring.
Addicks fans will be puzzled by Murphy's decision to join Tottenham and their Dutch manager Martin Jol. When he joined Charlton he cited one of his reasons for coming as wanting to play under an English-born manager.
Charlton play Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Sunday but it unclear whether Murphy will face his former club.
