MARK BENTLEY has scooped the inaugural Medway Messenger player of the month award for August.

Gillingham fans have been voting for the player they felt made the best contribution during the opening month of the season.

Votes have been coming in via this website and by post. The people who made a nomination will be entered into a draw for a personalised signed picture of Bentley.

Bentley took the award following a string of impressive displays in midfield and as cover in defence during a difficult opening four games of the season.
