THE Mileham family dominated Margate Tennis Club’s open championships appearing in a host of finals between them.
Nicola Mileham was first to take centrestage and proved far too strong for fellow first team player Lynn Giles in the women’s singles.
Mileham’s powerful forehand was a key factor as she produced a near faultless display to triumph 6-0, 6-1 and land the title for the first time.
Brian Mileham was next up, in the men’s singles final against defending champion Stevie Mayer. This pair have played each other in the final on numerous occasions and in the last few years Mayer has had the upper hand.
However, Mileham dictated from the start, coming through 6-2, 6-2 to win back the crown he last won in 2004.
The ladies doubles final featured the two singles finalists as Nicola Mileham partnered mother-in-law Kay Mileham against Lynn Giles and Jocelyn Cox.
Another good final saw the Milehams take control early on only for Giles and Cox to raise their game. The first set went to the Milehams 6-4, but Cox and Giles then took the second by the same margin before sealing a fine comeback by winning the decider 6-3.
Brian Mileham partnered Stevie Mayer in the men’s doubles and proved too strong for Mark Giles and Keith Wilson sweeping them aside 6-0, 6-0.
Nicola Mileham, appearing in her third final of the day, partnered brother-in-law Lee Mileham against Kay Mileman and Tony Morris in the mixed doubles and again ony two sets were needed as the Mileham duo won 6-2, 6-2.
The day’s final event , was the men’s plate for first round losers in which the evergreen Dennis Flory overcame spirited young rival Nick Reber 6-0, 6-3.
