Gillingham 1 Exeter 0

Adam Miller scored late on to seal a third straight win for promotion chasing Gillingham.

The midfielder stabbed home from close range with 11 minutes left to earn the Gills maximum points against League 2 opponents Exeter.

Miller?s goal was just reward for a dominant second-half performance from Gillingham.

Both sides had their chances in the first-half and despite an impressive start from Gillingham it was Exeter who came closest early on, with a shot from Neil Saunders which clipped the bar.

The Gills responded with an effort that hit the bar at the other end when Nicky Southall?s free-kick beat keeper Paul Jones but not the woodwork.

Andy Barcham and Dennis Oli both had shots on target towards the end of the half but neither troubled Jones.

Early chances after the break fell to Simeon Jackson and John Nutter but both went well wide, while Exeter?s Steve Tully got a bit closer with a low shot the went just past the post.

Gillingham did have the ball in the net on 58 minutes but Adam Miller?s close range shot was ruled out for off-side.

The Gills had most of the play but were still failing to test Jones and Barcham sent a powerful shot over the bar. Eventually a low stinging shot from Jackson had Jones scrambling for the ball, but it was cleared by the defence.

A rare chance for Exeter saw substitute Ryan Harley come close, with a vicious shot from the edge of the area

The breakthrough came on 79 minutes when Jackson?s shot was blocked but Miller was there to stab home.

Have you say on the Gills SpeakOut section below.

Gills manager Mark Stimson said: ?The boys have really been putting in some good performances of late and they certainly did that again against a good side in Exeter.

?They came here with a game plan and tried to frustrate us and full credit to our players, they kept going and in the end got a deserved win.

?It?s not always going to be pretty, you?re not always going to have ten chances on goal. For me personally we looked like the side that wanted to win the game, we were the team going forward and the team playing the football.

?It was a great captain?s performance from Adam Miller and it was great for him to get the winning goal.?
