Gillingham 1 Huddersfield 0
A LATE Adam Miller penalty earned Gillingham their first win in eight matches against Huddersfield at Priestfield on Saturday.
Just three minutes remained when Miller sent keeper Matt Glennon the wrong way from the spot after substitute Delroy Facey had been fouled by Nathan Clarke.
The home side's best chance before that came shortly before half-time when skipper Andrew Crofts failed to direct a header on target after a cross from Sean Clohessy.
Huddersfield had their best chances of the game in the opening half and were on the back-foot after the break as Gillingham surged forward.
Simon King came close with a shot mid-way through the second half but Miller?s spot-kick earned Gillingham a deserved three points.
Manager Mark Stimson was relieved to end their poor run of results and hopes of few more fans will now get behind him and his side.
He said: ?Sometimes it?s better to leave it late because it means the other team hasn?t got much time to equalise.
?It was a good victory. We needed a victory to calm a few people down. I?ve said before that at the moment it?s 50-50. Fifty with me and fifty against me. I understand that and it was important for me that we got a nice win in front of them.
?We played some half decent football that the fans appreciated at times. It was a massive improvement on last week. Last week wasn?t good enough for this football club and there were certain players who let themselves down. This week we?ve been boosted by Danny Cullip?s arrival.
?He gives us a lot of experience and leads by example and most of all he?s up for this challenge and up for this dog-fight we?re in. He enjoys those games and you could see at the end he enjoyed that win as much as anybody.?
