A goal and a clean sheet against Chester left Gillingham's on-loan centre-back Leigh Mills beaming, but he knows his place in the side is far from secure.
Mills admitted his performance on Saturday wasn’t his best, and with Garry Richards breathing down his neck for the shirt he knows he has to be on top form every week.
He said: “We didn’t play particularly well and from a personal level I didn’t play particularly well, but when you read the paper you’ll see we didn’t let a goal in and that’s our aim.
“It wasn’t how I would have liked to play and the manager has demanded more of me, and that’s only right. He has to push me and I don’t think I was quite on it.
“I like to be honest with myself and the management are always honest with us. There is still a long way to go before I can consider myself a first-team regular.
“I’ve only played a few games and things can quickly change and that’s one thing I’ve learnt. You are in the team, you’re out of the team.
“You are never cemented in the team and I have to look to each game and try to cement my place a bit more each week.”
