Further success beckons for Minster Amateur Boxing Club after it was affiliated to the Amateur Boxing Association last month.
The club’s senior members can now compete in local, regional and national competitions, giving fighters more chances of glory on bigger stages.
Membership has grown since the club opened in December and there is a steady increase in the number of girls attending, which is good news with the ABA keen to encourage more females into the sport.
Two of the girls, Olivia Taylor and Danielle Shilling, recently attended a Southern Counties training camp.
The feedback was positive and they have been invited to attend the next camp. Similar events and training sessions with other local clubs and a refurbished gym mean Minster ABC has quickly become secure within the sport.
Every week a medal and certificate is awarded to the boxer of the week and at the end of the season, the member with the most awards will be named boxer of the year.
Head coach Garry Thelwell said: “This raises confidence and self-esteem and encourages our boxers to work that bit harder.”
There are still some membership places available. Anyone wishing to join can call Kath on 07743 561189.
Sessions run on Mondays and Thursdays from 6-8.30pm at Minster College.
