KENT athlete Kelly Holmes charged under the Olympic Games 1500m A-standard at the GE Galan indoor meeting in Stockholm.
Holmes, who has won medals at virtually every major championship since the 2000 Olympic Games, followed her 800m victory at the previous weekend’s Norwich Union World Trials and AAA Championships in Sheffield by running her second-fastest ever indoor 1500m in 4:04.83.
The surprise was that Holmes, from Hildenborough, near Tonbridge, was edged into second place after being out-sprinted by the former world 3,000 metres steeplechase record-holder, Alesya Turova, who ran the fastest time in the world so far this winter with 4:04.42.
