DISMAL Welling's barren spell continued as they lost at home to Fisher on Boxing Day.

The defeat only served to increase the pressure on Welling manager Neil Smith, who has now seen his side go six league games without a goal.

Fisher created enough chances to have won the game twice over but keeper Jamie Turner was in inspired form for the Wings.

Turner kept out Mark Wright's free-kick and Jeff Goulding's close-range header before Fisher's pressure told in the 39th minute.

Referee Lee Venamore, who seemed intent on taking centre stage, let play continue when Joe Howe was felled and Fisher took full advantage to find the breakthrough courtesy of Goulding.

Howe was subsequently stretchered from the field of play.

Turner pulled off another fine one-handed save to deny Gavin Tomlin with 11 minutes left.

The Wings were reduced to 10 men when Venamore sent-off on-loan Gillingham midfielder Rory Hill for what he judged a two-footed tackle.

Welling had claims for a penalty in stoppage time turned down when Ellis Remy, having seen keeper Simon Overland keep out his low drive, latched on to the rebound but was felled from behind.

After more than six minutes of stoppages, Venamore called time to proceedings having booked five Welling players and cautioned only two Fisher men.
