GLORIOUS history repeated itself on Sunday at the Ice Bowl, when the Invicta Dynamos beat higher-league Chelmsford Chieftains 5-4.
It is the second time inside four weeks that Chelmsford, with their legion of former Invicta players have been humbled by the Mos in the Premier Cup.
Player-coach Kev Parrish said: "It was a great win and felt excellent."
Stuart Low had a mixed start to the game, forcing his side onto the back foot when he was binned for holding, before scoring eight seconds after returning at 5.48.
The Chieftains got off to the worst possible start in the second period when a defensive mistake gifted Low his second goal at 20.08.
Three former Mos got Chelmsford's first goal, Carl Greenhous shooting through traffic with assists to Elliot Andrews and Duane Ward at 24.27.
Another former Invicta player Andy Hannah did not endear himself to his old club or their supporters when his awful dive saw Low sit out and Ward made it 2-2 on the powerplay at 28.36.
Unlike Invicta who failed to capitalise on another powerplay, the Chieftains again made the most of an extra man at 37.38 when Michael Timms slotted home unmarked at the back post to end the period 3-2 to the Essex side.
With the lesson learned, Invicta stayed out of the penalty box for the entire third and finally converted a powerplay of their own at 49.20 by player-of-the-match Peter Beerling.
The home side kept the pressure on and re-took the lead at 52.29 when Peter Korff scored from close range, assisted by Low and Peter Carey.
A tripping penalty on Scott McKenzie gave the Mos another powerplay and just 33 seconds after taking the lead the home crowd went wild as Alex Shaw's shot found the net to put the lower league side 5-3 up at 53:02.
Chelmsford kept going and by 55.16 there was only a goal in it after Ward and Andrews combined to set up Timms, but Invicta kept possession well to see out the win in style.
Meanwhile, this weekend a full-strength Mos are at Milton Keynes Thunder on Saturday looking to make it seven straight wins in the English National Hockey League (South) and at Romford Raiders in the Premier Cup on Sunday.
Parrish said: "Milton Keynes have tied with Streatham and won at Bracknell so it will be tough as their Olympic size ice takes some getting used to.
"Romford have six imports and are still experimenting with who are their best players. They will be pleased with us for beating Chelmsford again, but will do us no favours and I'll be happy if we can keep the score down."
