AFTER a great start in the league, the Invicta Dynamos turn their attention to the Premier Cup for the next fortnight.

On Sunday the Ice Bowl outfit welcome Slough Jets, who only narrowly beat them 5-4 and 4-3 in the competition last season.

Jamie Smith is out after taking a puck to the ankle, while Peter Korff is also a doubt with an ankle injury.

Coach Kevin Parrish said: “We also had four or five players miss training this week with flu but they will play.

“Last year we were minutes away from beating Slough at their place and this year our team’s stronger.

“We’re not expecting to win this competition but if we keep it tight and entertaining, then we’re hopeful we could pull off a win and surprise a few English National Premier League teams.”

Last weekend the Mos fired an early warning that they will not relinquish their English National Hockey League (South) crown without a fight.

Their opening game of the new season saw them thrash last year’s bottom club Slough Harrier Hawks 15-2 and the club’s new signings made quite an impact.

In a match plagued by the mist that kept surfacing on the ice pad, credit must go to referee Mo Ashraff for keeping the game going for the full 60 minutes.

An early two-minute charging call on Damien Welch gave the Hawks a powerplay and 29 seconds in at 3:00, they shocked the home crowd by opening their account.

The home crowd noise began to rise and the Mos responded with returning Alex Shaw scoring at 5:34.

Invicta went into the lead at 8:02 through Dan Fudger and that is where they stayed. Peter Carey extended the lead by scoring the third through a crowd of players two minutes later.

The Mos were again down to four men at 14:18, Karl Lennon binned for roughing, and were reduced to three when Stuart Low was given two minutes for holding.

But the Hawks were unable to capitalise on their two-man advantage and were punished minutes later when Fudger got his second with a breakaway goal.

In the second period, debutant Mike Allaby opened his account at 22:15 following a fantastic cross-pass from Andy Smith and nine seconds later, man-of-the-match Lowe made it 6-1.

AJ Smith and Gary Dodds got on the scoresheet before Slough pulled one back, but Carey ensured Invicta had the last say of the period to go in 9-2 up.

Forward Allaby completed a stunning debut hat-trick in the third period and there were further goals from Shaw, Kev Lake, and Matt Drake.
