Gillingham boss Mark Stimson's hunt for a new striker was welcomed by Saturday’s goal hero Gary Mulligan.
The Irishman is already Gills' third choice forward but he feels that the arrival of another front-man will help boost the team’s promotion chances.
He said: “We only really have three strikers anyway and then we have the young lad, Andy Pugh. If we’re going for promotion we need at least four so I think we need him to be honest.
“It means that you’re fighting for your place but if you’re playing every week and you think there’s nobody to challenge you it might make you a bad player.
“If there are four of you fighting in training and giving your all, then you’re going to come on the field and give it your all as well. I don’t mind who he brings in.”
Mark McCammon and Simeon Jackson are the first-choice pair but Mulligan sees no reason why he can’t be challenging them – especially after netting Saturday’s equaliser.
“I’m just as good as them in my eyes,” he said. “That goal should help my chances."
