THE Kent Messenger Superveteran tennis finals were dominated by a group of county players from powerful east Kent clubs.
Only Phil Pretty of Maidstone and Myra Hunter of Sheppey, who teamed up with Diane Bennett of Knockholt, prevented a clean sweep for Herne Bay, Canterbury and Margate.
Phil won the over 65 singles and Myra and Diane won the ladies’ doubles.
The star of the finals was Keith Clark of Herne Bay who won the over 50 singles, the over 60 singles, the over 50 doubles and the over 60 doubles.
A magnificent set of Mats Jonasson lead crystal glass trophies, which have been sponsored by the Kent Messenger and Gary Sims were presented to the winners.
Results:
Men’s 50 singles: Keith Clark beat Brian Robinson 6-2 6-3.
Men’s 60 singles: Keith Clark beat Michael Mayer 6-0 6-2.
Men’s 65 singles: Phil Pretty beat Lionel Hoskins 7-5 6-2.
Men’s over 50 doubles: Keith Clark and Gary Sims beat Terry Clark and Dave Craddock 6-1 6-3.
Men’s 50/60 doubles: Gary Sims and Michael Mayer beat Ray Murray and Phil Pretty 3-6 6-3 10-3 tie break.
Men’s over 70 doubles: Paul Drane and Lionel Hoskins beat Colin Evans and Keith Spurgeon 6-0 6-1.
Men’s over 60 doubles: Michael Mayer and Keith Clark beat Gary Sims and Lionel Hoskins 4-6 6-4 10-7 tie break.
Ladies over 45 doubles: Myra Hunter and Diane Bennett beat Yvonne Childs and Elizabeth Hryniewicz 6-2 4-6 6-1.
