GILLINGHAM received a boost on Tuesday with the news that Bryan Robson has been appointed as West Bromwich Albion’s new manager.
Glenn Hoddle had been linked with the position over the last few days and, given assistant manager John Gorman’s close relationship with the former England boss, the Gills were sweating on the announcement.
Earlier this week, Gorman said he is enjoying his time at The Priestfield but admitted his position could change if former colleague Hoddle lands one of the top jobs he is regularly associated with.
The Scot, who was Hoddle's number two at the 1998 World Cup, said: “There's no smoke without fire. I'm really enjoying my time at Gillingham but if I was asked to join Glenn somewhere I would have to consider it.
“I'm my own man and don't need to work with Glenn but we do have a good partnership."
Meanwhile, the Gills return to action on Saturday with a home game against Derby.
John Robinson and Nicky Southall are expected to be back in contention for the match, although striker Darren Byfield is still struggling with a leg injury.
