No pitch excuses for England's Jones

GERAINT JONES: "It is hard to tell how it will play"

TWO down with three to play, England and their Ashes wicketkeeper Geraint Jones will be pulling out all the stops to win when play gets underway in Perth on Thursday.

The 30-year-old Kent man was part of the side that suffered a dramatic last day collapse in Adelaide and remains confident that England will show their mettle at the WACA despite a pitch that Aussie spinner Shane Warne is alleged to have described as "one of the worst he has seen".

Jones said: "It is hard to tell how it will play. It does look quite patchy, but it hasn’t been used for four years or so. Overall we don’t think it’ll be too bad.

"Everyone has picked themselves up (since Adelaide), trained pretty well and there’s a strong determination to get out there and perform in this one."
